Gray smoke starts to pour out of a three-foot wide hole in the wall or ground. The party hears a low, repetitive thrum.
You come upon a stone statue of a halfling posed as though to protect himself from impending harm. The statue seems out of place.
Following a sudden shift in temperature, dead birds start falling from the sky. More dead birds litter the ground ahead.
You find a small child’s doll with a note tucked in its pocket that reads “Find Cara.” The doll is missing one arm but otherwise appears in good condition.
A severed finger lies on the ground. You notice a small, intermittent blood trail.
A faint, echoing sound like children’s laughter emanates from the periphery, seeming to come from multiple directions. Then the sounds stop.
The ground is charred black in a 12-foot radius circle. In the center is an unblemished iron cube about the size of an apple.
You come upon a shimmering, oval-shaped vortex floating four feet above the ground. The interior is jet black and devoid of all light. The surrounding air appears to be drawn toward it.
A raven appears nearby, sitting silently. It seems to be observing the party from a distance. As the party moves, the raven follows not far behind.
The ground begins to tremor violently for several seconds, then stops. The air crackles with static electricity.
Seven tiny glowing blue orbs float and move about erratically above the ground.
A horn blast echoes far off in the distance. It is soon answered by another from a different direction. Then nothing…
